SOW (Statement of Work)
A Statement of Work is the contract document that defines what will actually be delivered: scope, tasks, deliverables, schedule, acceptance criteria, and responsibilities. In procurement, the buyer's SOW inside a solicitation becomes the baseline your proposal must respond to line by line.
The SOW is where proposals and contracts meet. Buyers embed a draft SOW in the RFP to define scope; vendors respond to it, sometimes proposing amendments; the negotiated version governs delivery. Ambiguity in an SOW is deferred conflict — 'support as needed' and 'timely response' become disputes precisely because nobody priced them. Strong responses mirror the SOW's structure, flag assumptions explicitly, and tie every priced element to an SOW line. For recurring services, the SOW's task frequencies and service levels are the requirements a compliance matrix should track.
